Disability labels are intended to improve children's learning struggles by providing them with extra supports and accommodations. Not only it is unclear whether these supports make a difference but my research shows teachers hold lower expectations for students with disability labels than expected given the student's test scores and grades (http://ift.tt/2rYSZ9x). Are the benefits of disability labels worth the costs?
