Hello, Redditors!
My name is Bruce Winchell. I am a Registered Patent Attorney in the United States and a Registered Patent Agent in Canada. I am licensed to practice law in Ohio and Tennessee.
I teach short courses for the American Chemical Society at their national meetings on Intellectual Property Strategies for Technical Professionals and on Writing Your Own Patent Applications. I have taught both of these classes for DOE National Laboratories many times since 2001.
In the last 10 years I have helped 972 New Mexico resident inventors, who took my Write Your Own Patent Applications class, obtain the issuance of 835 United States Patents as part of a DOE National Laboratories technology transfer program. That was about 35% of the total number of US Patents issued to all New Mexico resident inventors in those years. New Mexico includes Sandia National Laboratories, Los Alamos National Laboratory, Air Force Research Laboratory, White Sands Test Range Laboratories, and several New Mexico Universities.
I helped one large company put together a portfolio of about 50 US Patents that brought in $483 Million per year in royalties.
I have helped one large company make $1 Billion in royalties on one US Patent I obtained for them over the life of that patent. I successfully defended this patent in legal proceedings for the large company.
I earned a B.S. in Chemistry, a B.A. in Speech, and a J.D. in Law. I have been practicing before the United States Patent Office for more than 40 years. As you can see, I aim to help inventors obtain patents that can be used to make money.
I have worked in the technical areas of polymer science, electrochemistry, cementitious systems, metallurgy, ceramics, architectures for supper computers, chemical engineering systems, software, mechanical systems, mass production systems, electronic systems, supper computer networks, fiber optics, separations chemistry, biotechnical, chemistry lab on a chip, sensors, and automated machinery.
So please, ask me anything about intellectual property and how to make money with it. I hope to come up with some good ideas for you to interest you in learning more about how intellectual property can help your careers in chemistry as it did mine.
I’ll be back at 11:00 AM EST to answer your questions!
